I had the pleasure of meeting the Holiday Inn Express Wilkesboro AND Hampton Inn Wilkesboro Regional Director of Sales, Cathy McKenzie last Friday. Located near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, these sister properties are the only two big name hotels in the immediate area. The Hampton Inn’s largest event space is under 800 sq. ft. Perfect for corporate meetings or small networking event but not for a larger social gathering.
However, the Holiday Inn Expresss is home to the Yadkin Valley Event Center. It’s here that I stopped in to meet Cathy. The property completed a full renovation earlier this year. I stayed with this property years ago prior to relocating to Wilkes County. It was a beautiful property then, it is stunning now! Walking into the main lobby the front desk consists of two large “pods” where guest service agents are ready to greet and assist you with check in.
The main floor has a natural feel. The floors and walls are warm creams accented with rich browns, greens, and blues. It’s very relaxing to the eye.
Hotel amenities include an open business center, fitness center, outdoor swimming pool, and their signature hot breakfast.
Outside the ballroom a private foyer has been added. This space is perfect for a cocktail hour, while the ballroom is being transformed from ceremony to reception. The ballroom features retractable partitions allowing flexibility for all event types and sizes. With up to 5000 sq. ft. of event space, they can easily accommodate weddings with 300 guests.
The entire ballroom rents for $1400. This includes professional staff to set up and breakdown, table linens, and chairs. You will also have access to their new state of the art audio and visual system, wireless internet, and complimentary parking for all guests.
The do not cater, however, they have a list of preferred vendors that are familiar with the behind the scenes layout. You are not required to use the preferred list. Couples are free to bring in whomever they choose to cater their event.
I was hoping to locate some of their updated pictures online but was not very successful. If you’re in the area make sure to stop in and have Cathy give you a tour. It is worth it! She’ll partner with you to plan and pull off a memorable, successful party or wedding.
